Flowers of the Sun

Sunflowers are my favorite flower and they actually spark a sense of joy inside me when I see them. Currently I am waiting for the sunflower seeds I planted in my yard to mature into sunflowers.

So far I have sunflower plant stems sprouted from the ground with their leaves and hopefully soon I will have the flowers themselves. I’ve spotted a few sunflowers in full bloom in around the neighborhoods I walk and bike. The feature photo on this post is from such a flower.

Sunflower Obsession

I think my obsession began with a lovely gift I was given by a friend many years ago – an artificial potted plant of sunflowers (that looked quite real). That potted plant began my collection of sunflower related items.

My sunroom is decorated in a sunflower theme (I tried not to overdo it and it keep it semi subtle) and here is the plant that started it all along with a couple other sunflower themed items in the corner of my sunroom:

If You Plant Them, They will Come

I am thinking of the line from the movie Field of Dreams (1989): “If you build it, he will come”.  I am patiently awaiting the arrival of the sunflowers I have planted including those I planted in the raised beds that surround the outside of my sunroom!

I will have sunflowers peeking into my sunroom and not just sunflower themed items around the sunroom!

Postscript

I was luckily enough to discover the blog of a talented painter who has a lot of sunflower themed art: Brush of Dawn Oil Paintings. Her sunflower paintings make me smile whenever I see them.

  1. My favorite flower is also the sunflower. I have several blog posts, many, many photos as well as a wall hanging and a placemat all with sunflowers on them. They make such a bold statement with their giant yellow faces.

    1. Now Laura…I have been inspired by your painter blog but not enough to start painting my own panels – ha! No some talented artist painted the panel (oops I do not know the name). Thanks so much for the compliments 🙂

  5. Loved this post! I just noticed some sunflowers in full bloom this morning on my way to work. My husband is from North Dakota and there are whole fields of sunflowers there. I can’t wait to see those!

    I LOVE your sunflower themed sunroom and the creative display of the continuing theme to the outside. Love the art as well.

  6. I am drooling over that quilt. I’m not kidding. I can feel my mouth water. Maybe one day you can post some close ups so I can finish getting my sunflower fix. Guess what I am painting right now? Giggle.

    I love them and I totally feel your love for them. The last part about them following the sun and if there is light, they will find it…glorious!

      1. Actually I love both of the quilts, but I got to see closer ups of the ugly fabric challenge already, love what you did with that quilt btw. I want to see the painted fabric wall hanging quilt close up so I can see the stitching. So pretty. I totally share your obsession.
