Blog Anniversary Celebration & Giveaway

October heralds the 4th anniversary of the tierneycreates blog. Although a 4th anniversary it not traditionally a milestone anniversary, I did not want to wait until the 5th anniversary to start my first annual Blog Anniversary Giveaway!

Whether you are a new reader/follower or have been with me since the beginning (like perhaps the friends and family that were browbeaten into signing up to follow my blog in the early days?!?!) I so appreciate you taking time from your day to read my tierneycreates musings.

So let’s first talk about the “celebration” and then I will give you the details on the “giveaway”. (and of course I will ramble on more afterwards…)

The Celebration

Throughout the month of October, along with new posts, I am going to feature “the best of tierneycreates” from the past 4 years – those posts which got the most views and/or the most comments.

We’ll kick it off tomorrow with a sort of October/Halloween-esque post from October 2015 Dark Cabinet of Mystery.

The Giveaway

As I hinted in the Postscript section of the September post Limitless Library Love I am going to giveaway FOUR (4) of the Little Wallets I was obsessed with making in September 2017. You can view the whole lot of them in this post – Little Wallet Madness.

So here is what you need to do to ENTER THE GIVEAWAY:

Write a comment in the Comments/Leave a Reply section of this post with a minimum of the following three pieces of information:

Question #1 – What is your favorite color? (or “favourite colour” if you live outside the US!)

Questions #2 – What is your second favorite color (in case you’re selected & your 1st choice is gone)

Question #3 – If you are a blogger, what is your favorite thing about blogging; or if you are not a blogger – what is your favorite thing about reading/following blogs?

Oh my goodness Tierney you are asking me to write a freaking essay to try and get one of your Little Wallets (yup I know what you are thinking).

2017-09-10_15-59-53_350
Hope this photo gets you excited about essay writing – ha!

But I think it will be fun to read people’s comments about why they blog or enjoy reading blogs. The last question is meant to celebrate blogging and our blogging community!

You have until Sunday, October 22nd to add your comment to enter the giveaway. I will have Terry the Quilting Husband (TTQH) randomly select 4 winners on Monday October 23, 2017. No, no, no don’t try and write cute comments to TTQH in your entry, I am going to just give him a blinded list of who responded on the post with assigned numbers! He won’t even see the names to be influenced by any cute blogger names (smile).

Do not worry if you live in other countries such as Canada, UK, Australia, South Africa, India, Texas, etc., I am going to mail the Little Wallet to you wherever you live (unless of course you are an extraterrestrial – unfortunately interspace postal services are not an option at this point).

I will privately contact the winners, within our solar system, for their mailing addresses.

Speaking of Community

What is my answer to Question #3? What I love about blogging and reading/following blogs is the sense of community. It makes me smile that there seems to be a little tribe of crafters who follow each other blogs. When I use the word “crafter” I mean all creative types – whether you have a cooking blog, a paper crafting blog, a needlepoint blog, sewing blog, creative writing or poetry blog, drawing/painting blog, quilting blog, etc., etc. I love being exposed to all this darn creativity floating around the ethernet!

I started blogging, heavily encouraged by my awesome sister, in October 2013 as a vehicle for my now closed tierneycreates Etsy shop. I discovered I like blogging way more than trying to sell handmade items online.

Much thanks for my longtime readers/followers and to my newer readers!

I hope to keep “fusing textiles and smiles” (my tierneycreates tagline) on this blog for many more years!

Las Vegas

I had to take a little break from blogging as I dealt emotionally with sad stuff going on in the world. I could not bring myself to write for a couple of days.

I did come across something very awesome – the blogger Christa Quilts (christaquilts.com) lives in Las Vegas and her local guild, Las Vegas MQG is collecting quilts to pass out to those impacted by the shooting. You can check out her post link below for more information:

CATCHING MY BREATH AND CALL FOR #QUILTSFORVEGAS

Table Runners

This is a quick follow up to my previous post Can We Talk About Table Runners? – I have been working on table runners and have completed 5 tops so far! I am going to quilt them and will reveal the table runners and their sizes/dimensions in a future post.

Here is a little tease – stacks of strips of pieced brightly colored fabric scraps for the table runners:

  1. Hooraaaaay! Happy Blogiversary, Tierney! I can’t believe I’ve only found you recently, since it turns out we actually started our blogs at around the same time. I began mine as a way to show what I was making, and introduce new Beasties… I never expected anyone other than my customers to take a look at it. But what I’ve loved about blogging is that, from quite early on, complete strangers started stopping by, leaving encouraging messages and creating a community around my little monsters. It’s been awesome! That, and it’s grown in ways I never anticipated – in the beginning, I couldn’t have guessed that the Beasties would start going out on their own adventures, and rekindle my long-neglected love of writing silly stories! So there’s my essay… To complete your quiz, my favourite colours are lime green and red. Oh, or mustardy yellow. Or basically anything except pink 😀 Here’s wishing you a great next four years (and beyond)!
PS Those runner tops look awesome!

  2. Happy Blog anniversary! And what a great way to celebrate 😊
I think this is going to be a theme – but the thing I love about Blogging is the sense of community it creates. I have ‘met’ so many wonderful fellow crafters through Blogging. All are so wonderfully encouraging and helpful. It reminds me what a great place this world can be (and makes me think more people should craft!). I also think it makes me a better person. Oh, and it’s a great journal for when you can’t remember something or need some encouragement in your own personal way. And your colour questions – lilac or a teal blue. All the best!

    1. Why thank you and thanks so much for commenting! It is now very obvious I have to mask the names of the drawing as Terry would see you commented and definitely select your name 🙂

  4. Congratulations, dear Tierney! I think Catbird Quilt Studio is only a bit older than TierneyCreates. My favorite color is the color of love. ❤ My second favorite color, if I must choose only one, is green. I have more sweaters that are green than any other color. I sometimes worry that I'll turn into that old woman who wears green from head to toe, and each item of clothing is a completely different green. (Of course, I worry about that less now, since I know they really all DO go together!)

I've been blogging (different venues included) for 6 years. In fact, my first post was published 6 years ago tomorrow. huh… One of the reasons I persisted is because the interaction I get with readers. I like knowing that what I share is meaningful to others.

    1. Congrats on your 6 year anniversary! I think you should have a medallion quilt giveaway to honor it but make sure the giveaway is fixed and I win it – ha! 🙂 Thanks so much for following me over the years and you know how much I have enjoyed your blog! I seem to have a thing for green, I deny it, but most of the fabric in my stash and my scraps are green.

  5. T: Favorite color is purple, favorite colour is green. So our Gray Barn Designs blog is almost two years old. Cindy and I found your blog almost immediately after we began and it has helped guide us by example. Thank you! I love to blog because it helps me document and fuel my quilting evolution.

  6. Congratulations! What are my favorite colors? Peachy pinks, greens and naturals. What do I love about reading blogs? Getting inspired by others, their spaces, their projects, their outlook and learn things that I didn’t know before.

I love the strips for the table runners. I have been sewing scraps to some thrifted adding machine tape. The possibilities are many!

      1. I was thinking while quilting yesterday why I like your blog in particular. It came down to fusing textiles with smiles. Your blog certainly has a heart, but it is a nice respite from the bombardment of bad news and negativity that surrounds us. I find myself really looking forward to it.

  7. Congratulations on your unofficial anniversary! Who cares if it’s not divisible by 5! I say celebrate everyday in every way possible. I’ve been blogging for seven years. Over the years I’ve had the privilege of meeting many wonderful people. The interaction with my readers is what’s makes this experience so rewarding. I have so many favorite colors. Since you’ve only asked for two I guess I would have to say teal and orange. Best wishes for many many more years of blogging! Your little corner of the internet adds a magical sparkle to my day! 😎

  8. A huge hug and congratulations, Tierney, on your 4-year Blogiversary! It’s been a joy to follow and read your regular musings on books, decor, and the creative quilter’s life since I got back into art and craft blogging last October. Thank you, and many happy returns!

For the giveaway (yay!): my favourite colours are purple and orange (so hard to decide!). I personally enjoy blogging for the sense of shared excitement and community around making. I love sharing in other people’s creative victories, and I love knowing what makes different makers tick. Personal craft blogs are also a wealth of information for me, whether it comes to techniques, new patterns, projects, yarns, etc. Most of how I stay updated on knitting and craft news is through the efforts of writers who take the time to share what they know. Blogs are really gifts that keep on giving. Cheers!

    1. Thanks so much for your kind words and a virtual hug back to you! Very good color choices – I love these colors too…wait I seem to love all colors/colours, lol. I mirror your sentiments on why you like to blog – I feel constant inspiration (and good pressure to create). 🙂

  9. Hi Tierney!
Your blog is the only one I follow, really. Besides enjoying your skilled creativity, your sense of humor, your inspiring ideas, your studio photos… one day you posted a photo of your neighbor’s peace flags that really uplifted me when I needed it. You seem like a kindred spirit. I realize how connected we can be without even meeting face-to-face sometimes.
    Thanks so much.

  10. Cindy here…don’t get me mixed up with Sandy because the wallet will need to be mailed to Ohio! Fave Color #1 Teal/Turquoise
    Fave Color #2 Red
Why do I blog? I love to see what other quilters are doing. It’s inspirational to have an on line community of creative women to “talk” to!

  11. I’ve been reading your blog since sometime in 2015. I have enjoyed reading about your minimalist journey, the library book critiques, your love of scrappy, improv., Make-it-do style of quilting & your impressions of central Oregon. (I lived in Redmond OR for about 3 yrs so find the ‘outsider’ view interesting tho I moved there from a rural area not the city). Not sure why I never commented, perhaps because I consider you more of an artist and i’m more of a hobbyist? A little intimidation perhaps.😊 Regardless, I love to follow bloggers who are fearless in documenting the process. Not just the pretty finishes but warts & all. As a 7 yr blogger, I am continually amazed & gratified by the love & support there is for those of us who love to make. The fascinating thing about blogging is there are always more readers than you can even imagine! Our style, backgrounds, politics, inspirations, whatever else might be different but we share a common love. And we both adore our Berninas.😊 Thanks for an interesting read & keep up the good work! And I’ll tell you my fave colors (blue, green, pink) tho that’s not really why I commented. sometimes it’s nice to get to know our silent readers! Lol

    1. Thanks so much Audrey for your comments! I loved your sentiments and insights on blogging! An artist, me? I am an imaginary artist but thank you so much for considering me more of an artist than hobbyist. Now my head is big – ha! I have many warts in my creative journey but I try to be as fearless as I can. Glad to share my journey with you thanks for reading 🙂

  12. Tierney, Another year is a reason to celebrate! 🎉Congratulations and keep on going… I love your blog and am happy to have found it in this vast blogosphere. Your posts and projects are always so creatively inspired, fun, beautiful, and intelligent. Gosh, I think I’m gushing.
Ok, I love anything in the red family and then the blue family but would be ecstatic to have one of your wallets in any color of the rainbow!
I started my blog a little over a year ago and it has opened a whole new world to me.. Blogging keeps me quilting. The community I have been privileged to find through blogging has been creative people who are inspiring, kind, and the real deal! 😀
It is wonderful to see that the quilting community can support the people of Las Vegas. I am going to look at the links now.

  13. Tierney, your posts make me smile.
Your free spirit and creativity inspire me.
Years ago, I learned about blogs at a teacher in-service.
Right away, I knew this would be a great way to inspire my first graders to write and share their thoughts. I had a classroom blog where I would post daily videos of students working and learning. The review from parents and grandparents were very positive. We had authors respond to our posts about their books, and the kids were so excited to hear from the authors. Each student had their own personal blog page on the class blog. They posted their poetry, stories, art, and learning on their own blog page.
I also had a teacher blog, to share ideas and lesson plans with other teachers.
When I retired, it only felt natural to continue blogging.
I started drawing and quilting, and I wanted to share what I learned.
I found that I learned so much from reading other blogs.
Being able to communicate with people from different places all over the world is one of the most enjoyable reasons I like to blog.
I believe we can learn so much by communicating with others.
Also, connecting with the creativity of others just helps inspire me to create.
As for my favorite colors…Purple and Green!

  14. Congratulations, Tierney!
    And, a heartfelt *Thank you!*
I have greatly enjoyed reading your blog… and following your creative journey!
I’ve learned from you, been uplifted by your intelligent, sensitive reflections, and have been delighted by your wit and humor! (“a fusion of textiles and smiles”, indeed!)
Learning, being inspired, and being part of a beautiful “family” of creative Makers and Artists (like you!) is what I find so rewarding in blogs like yours and Melanie’s Catbird Quilts Studio!!
(and, now, through you, I’ve “met” another!… a fellow retired teacher, Chela’s Colchis y Mas!)

    Oh!… Favorite color!…
I do love all colors, but Blue has always been very special to me.
Red is good (as is Green!)

*Thank you!*, again, Tierney, for teaching, sharing, and inspiring!!

  15. Why thank you so much Pat, your comments made my day and I appreciate the time you took to say hello! Glad you enjoyed the blog and have not been using it as a sleep aid (an alternative use to my writing, lol). Glad you put me in the same category of Melanie at Catbird, I do love her blog so much and she seems like a pretty cool person!
You are welcome and thank you! 🙂 🙂 🙂

  16. Firstly, happy blogiversary! 4 years of blogging is definitely worth celebrating!
Purple is my favorite color with hot pink coming in second.
I do have a blog, but don’t post as often as I should. The reason I enjoy blogging is sharing ideas and projects with other like-minded people (all women so far, for me). It’s also a way for me to keep track of what I make, almost like a diary.
