It’s time we get to know each other better. I mean some of us have been together nearly four (4) years with the tierneycreates blog.

It’s time I find out what type of music you like to listen to while you craft (for those of you who are Crafters)!

This weekend I spent time working on a new art improvisational art quilt using leftover clothing scraps from my pieces The Recycled Door and The Recycled Path, and I listened to a lot of music as a I designed and sewed from my Tierney Mix on my iPhone.

Frequently I listen to audiobooks or podcasts while crafting but I was really in the mood for just music while sewing.

My Tierney Mix is all over the place as far as musical genres. Here is a sampling of a run of songs that played from the mix while I crafted this weekend:

As you can see, my musical tastes are all over the place! The only type of music I think I do not like is “Death Metal”. I also listen to Classical Music but I do not mix it in with contemporary music. I have a separate Classical Music Mix.

When I am not listening to my own mix, I love to listen to the online radio station – Radio Paradise (also available as a phone app). The Radio Paradise mix is even more eclectic than my personal mix. The gentleman and his wife that run Radio Paradise will mix in Tchaikovsky followed by a Rolling Stones song!

  1. I guess as a Canadian I listen to the CBC mostly, Q in the AM, podcasts in the afternoon mostly from the CBC, music is all over the place but a lot of classical. Tried audio books but don’t seem able to retain the thread of the story prefer to read books. Save appliqué for evening TV viewing (listening) with hubby.

    1. Nice! Thanks for your comments! I am still working on my English Paper Piecing projects in front of the TV at night, mainly listening also (if I make the mistake of trying to watch the screen too long and sew, that is where finger vs. needle incidents happen 🙂

  3. My playlist includes: Bob Dylan, Willie Nelson, Kris Kristofferson, Janice Joplin, Van Morrison, Jimi Hendrix, Crosby Stills and Nash, Beatles….just for starters 🙂

    1. Thanks for sharing your musical tastes! I actually made a soft rock mix for a quilt retreat I went to last year and we had fun listening to Abba, Bee Gees, Barry Manilow, etc. during the retreat! I like Bluegrass too!

  5. I’d probably work comfortably with you, listening to your music. I haven’t listened much to music while I work for a few years. (a reason…) but when I did, it could range from Cuban (Buena Vista Social Club,) US jazz (a variety there from standards like Nat King Cole to current like Ben Allison,) Merle Haggard, Willie Nelson, Susie Bogguss, Paul Simon, Carly Simon, some bluegrass… I used to listen to country radio but the music became awful, and since I don’t listen anymore, I don’t know if it’s improved.

    1. Oh yes we would enjoy the music at our Tierney-Melanie quilt retreat! I have Buena Vista Social Club in my Tierney Mix too as well as most of the others you mentioned. I do not like Country Radio because I am not into the latest pop country, but I love classic country – give me Willie, Hank, Patsy, etc. Also I love Allison Krausse (is she country or Bluegraa?).   6. To be honest I think I’m a bit like you in terms of music choices. Definitely no death metal for me, and I do mix in classical with contemporary. There’s no rhyme or reason to what I listen to, other than that’s what I feel like at the time. There are also times when I feel like listening to just the needle and thread through the fabric!

    1. I bet just the needle and thread through the fabric can be very meditative! I am going to try that some sewing session – it would be like really being in the moment of sewing! Glad you enjoy a variety like I do (I guess we will never be found at a Death Metal concert lol) and thanks for commenting! 🙂

  7. I usually do audio books while sewing but Simon & Garfunkel is a ‘go to’ CD set in my studio. Until recently, I could not get internet there & hadn’t loaded much to phone so I could not use Pandora. Now that I’m getting great internet I like putting in something like Rolling Stones or Motown when I’m feeling lively or ‘new’ Rod Stewart, Wyndom Hill when I want more of background sound. I’m actually blanking on music right now. Waiting for first cup of coffee to kick in. I like using Pandora because it gives me songs I would not have thought of.

    1. Oh I love Pandora too – I listen to it while working it helps me focus and I love you can just select an artist and then listen to music in that same genre! Audiobooks are great while sewing! Thanks so much for your comments and for sharing your listens! 🙂

  8. Woah! I recall dancing to the original Doors version of Light My Fire at parties. Scary thought. It’s a different world now, and I’m a different person now, but I still love that song. But to answer your question, I listen to Bach, Leonard Cohen, Mozart, Celtic Thunder, Willie Nelson, and most anybody else. All great music!

    1. That is great variety – love it! I have Leonard Cohen on my mix too as well as Willie Nelson. I love Bach and Mozart but they are on their own Classical music mix. Well I hope you are “lighting a fire” of creating right now, thanks for commenting 🙂

  9. My oh my you do listen to a wide variety of music. I usually open my Pandora app and listen to music that way. I have a Maroon 5 Radio, Phillip Phillips Radio, Mumford & Sons Radio, Hello Radio, etc, etc, channels I listen to. I also have many purchased songs on my phone in my iTunes app. Happy listening!

  10. Oooh, good mix… And I’m a big fan of The Cure, so you get a double thumbs up for including them on your playlist! I’m trying to wean myself off watching murder mysteries while I work, and listen to more music instead so I stop getting distracted. Maybe it’s a crafter’s thing, but my playlists are a mixed bag too – I’ll listen to everything from indie, to cheesy 90s dance… And yes, even some metal too! 😆 Since it’s nearly Hallowe’en, I have The Misfits’ “Famous Monsters” on heavy rotation just now – ’tis the season, after all!

    1. Oh yes I would try and watch some show or movie on Netflix and always get sucked in and distracted from my crafting! Cheesy 90s dance is fun – I have on my iTunes an album called something like UK Dance Hits from the 1990s with Frankie Goes to Hollywood and songs of that such. It is okay to bop your head and dance around a little in your chair while crafting 🙂

      1. Yes indeedy! Plus I always feel I’m working doubly efficiently when I have those dance classics going. 😆 As for The Misfits, dip your toe into “Famous Monsters” to start you off… It’s a bit more radio-friendly, and every song is inspired by a classic monster, sci-fi or horror movie!
