A Crafter Needs to Eat

Super Detox Soup

This post has nothing to do with quilting or crafting! However my blog is about a “Crafter’s Life” and crafters have to eat right? So I want to share a recipe for a very delicious “detox” soup I recently made.

We have local health food store called Natural Grocers. I received their sale flyer in the mail a week ago and it contained a recipe for Super Detox Soup.

I love making soups but normally I would be suspicious of such as soup (i.e. it sounds too healthy and not yummy) but after reviewing the recipe I decided to make it.

Natural Grocers’ Super Detox Soup simmering on the stove

It was MAJOR tasty! Surprisingly tasty! I had it for lunch each day for 4 days in a row and did not tire of it. The fresh ginger in it has a nice zing and it has pseudo-Thai soup flavors (without the lemongrass and basil).

Here is the link to the recipe on the Natural Grocers’ website: https://www.naturalgrocers.com/recipe/super-detox-soup/

I would paste the entire recipe into this post but it might be easier for you to just access and save the link to the original recipe.  If you do end up making it note in my opinion you do not need to add all the red chili pepper flakes the recipe calls for – I added only 1/2 and the spice level seemed perfect!

Now this is not a cooking blog so there are no step by step instructions – ha! If you would like to check out a real cooking blog I enjoy, check out In Diane’s Kitchen

I did create a new Blog Post Category – A Crafter Needs to Eat , where you will find previous posts that have to do with cooking/provide recipes or links.

Postscript

This might seem random, but a Crafter also needs to use MS Office (MS Word, MS Excel, MS Powerpoint, etc.) and I discovered this wonderful sight with great tips on MS Office products:

  1. I love soups, little work, several meals works for me. My current favorites are barley–chicken, beef, or vegetable–or ‘refrigerator Italian soup’ (always beef, small beans, and carrots, plus whatever is in thde fridge–corn, spinach, cabbage, orzo, potatoes, etc., and the more Italian spices the better.
I see immediate changes to your recipe, no mushroom for me, maybe more cabbage or some Chinese sprouts.

    1. I am not a big mushroom person but the Shitake mushrooms really added a nice flavor and texture (unless of course you are allergic to or totally hate mushrooms) and I think they combined with the ginger gave it that Thai-soup like flavor.
      Thanks for your comments 🙂

  2. Cooking is something I least like to do, but I do enjoy making soup. My favorite is the chicken caldo (Mexican soup) recipe that I learned from my mom. I also like making tortilla soup. Thanks for the recipe!

    1. Oops I didn’t finish my comment before pressing send – The guy who writes that website works for the same company as I do and he shared so many awesome internal tips that I thought it was cool that he had an external website. He is like the extreme Microsoft office guru!

  3. Soup is one of the easiest meals to make, in my opinion! I make them often and rarely use recipes. This one looks interesting. I haven’t cooked with fresh ginger for a long time. I do wonder, did this have enough broth? With about 9-10 cups of solids and only 4 cups of broth, it seems like it would be … not very soupy! Thanks for the link to the Office tips. In the old days, I could find my way around Word, Excel, and Powerpoint pretty well. Anymore it seems like a struggle, as functions have been added and removed and moved and … argh! 🙂

    1. Well it was on the verge of being a stew as far as the amount of liquid so that was a very good question you asked. I think it could have used an extra cup of liquid if you wanted it more soupy😀

  4. Wow! This soup looks amazing! I am heading to the grocery store tomorrow so I can get all the ingredients to make this. Thanks for sharing…there is nothing better than a good soup recipe on a cold winter’s day! Also, thanks for tips on software, one seemingly tiny tip can save hours of time!

  6. Soup is one of our favorite foods. It is almost so yummy and makes a quantity suitable for delicious leftovers. We have some really flavorful detox salads/bowls that we like to eat. They are a great change of pace. Computers and their software do come in very handy for a quilter. We are Apple people though so we use our own brand. 🙂

    1. Thanks for your comments Cindy! I am actually an Apple person and at home I used a Mac desktop and a Mac laptop. I do have Pages, Numbers, etc. Mac software but I love the MS Office products more (maybe from using them at work for so many years) so I have MS Office for Mac. I have a Windows PC for work (I am a telecommuter) so I am always switching between Windows 10 PC during the day and Mac at night. At first it was confusing but now I am so used to it. Glad you are a soup lover too – soup rocks 🙂

      1. Lol! Soup does rock. I am well acquainted with Microsoft products. I worked as a bookkeeper for decades and the only platform my employer used was Windows based programs. It wasn’t until sometime after I retired that my oldest daughter converted me. I’m very happy with the switch and don’t plan on going back. 🤓
