The Library Stack and a Little “Acrostic”

Continuing my ongoing series, The Library Stack, sharing my stack of borrowed books from my beloved local public library. This is not my most recent stack but a stack from last week. I’ve returned a couple of these books and added a couple more but I’ll just use this stack as an example of a latest stack (smile).

In this pile is a book that was in the previous stack – Writing for Bliss: A Seven-Step Plan for Telling Your Story and Transforming Your Life by Diana Raab – in my 05/13/18 post.

The book is so good I borrowed it again to finish reading it. A couple of days ago I decided to just buy the book as it is one of those books you want to work through slowly, underline passages and take notes!

The author Diane Raab encourages people to read and write poetry and states that “poetry is the voice of the soul”; and “writing and reading poetry can be a springboard to growth, healing, and transformation.”

She defines and discusses different types of poems; and introduces a type of poem I’ve never heard about before – the “Acrostic” poem – a poem in which the first letters of each line form a word or a phrase if written vertically.

So I thought for fun I would take a stab at writing an Acrostic poem for you:

It Will Never Be Done, and That’s Okay

Quite wonderful is our hobby, even if it fills our lives with

Unfinished projects, gadgets and tools, stashes of precious fabrics and

Impulses to buy even more fabric.

Look at your completed creations and

The smiles they brought to the recipients who are

Intrigued by all the work and love that went into your textile art.

Now step back and realize thank

Goodness you will never be done.

I know, I know, you are thinking: “don’t quit your day job”! Thanks for reading my first Acrostic poem tand I think I experienced a moment of bliss by completing it!

Postscript

I mentioned the previous Library Stack earlier in this post from 05/13/18.

Well here is a little update on the cookbooks I borrowed:

I decided not to buy an Instant Pot or and Air Fryer at this time. Actually I did buy an Instant Pot and then I returned it. I got overwhelmed with bringing new kitchen gadgets into my life at this time and decided to focus on reacquainting myself with neglected appliances such as my slow cooker.

I ended up using one of the Slow Cooker Cookbooks in the stack above to make a couple delicious dinners including slow cooked shredded barbecue chicken that made wonderful sandwiches.

I will revisit the Instant Pot and Air Fryer in the future as I enjoyed looking through the recipe books and all the great (and seemingly) easy dishes you can make with these appliances.

  1. I love your reasoned approach to minimalism (except for that quilting addiction — ahem!). I’ve been resisting an Instapot too — thanks for the slow cooker reminder. Wouldn’t mind if you shared a recipe or two…just sayin’

    1. I have my own version of minimalism – everything except quilting supplies and fabric (and books – ha!). But I have a very small wardrobe, etc. I will share recipes if I find them online as I do not want to violate any copyrights from sharing from the cookbook directly 🙂
      Thanks for your comments 🙂

  2. I totally agree that “poetry is the voice of the soul”. The best poems I ever read were those written by my students, especially my first graders. They speak with no screen. Their poems were straight from their soul.

    1. Oh my goodness that sounds so sweet and awesome – that would be a great collection of poems for a teacher to publish (if the parents were okay with it) 🙂

      1. We used to publish on our classroom blog. Also, they got to choose one of their poems or writings to illustrate in a classroom book I had published through some educational publishing companies. Some of my older students were published in anthologies after entering contests.

  3. Wonderful poem, Tierney. Thanks for sharing it! The last 2 lines are so true, and I have never thought of it that way before – yes, thank goodness the work will never be done! The longer I keep at knitting, the more I realize there’s a lot yet to learn. That’s a lot to be grateful for! Glad to read that the Library Stack led to a new addition to your book collection. 🙂

  4. I guess each time we visit the library we have a good idea of the types of books we hope to pick up and then throw in a few more for good measure. I see last time you were looking and cooking. This time you are redesigning your home, or thinking about it. It made me look at my library stack from yesterday. Oddly I have had the same themes two months in a row – cookbooks, a bio and crafting books. Last month I did try new recipes, I even used a pattern from a quilt book and I have recommended the bio to others. Yesterday’s finds were again cookbooks, a bio (mother of sextuplets!!!) and a craft book. |I wonder if I shall actually make anything from any of the books this month – and I know already I will thank my lucky stars I didn’t give birth to six babies in one day!

    1. Oh my goodness – that is a wonderful insight! I did not realize it but I do seem to have a theme with my library stacks and must be in a specific mood when I am browsing the stacks! That is wonderful you tried out recipes and a pattern from your library reads. yes no need to have 6 children just because you read about it – ha! I am fascinated by stories of people who have many children and live in a small house.living very minimal – that is incredible. Thanks for your comments 🙂

      1. Thank you for your comments too – I love to see what other people are up to – books in particular, I have been known to read a lot of trash amongst the intelligent stuff! Currently having a chick lit indulgence and psycological thrillers!
