Project Bags as Gift Bags

I hope you all are having a wonderful holiday season and if you celebrate Christmas then I hope you had a very Merry Christmas. It is actually BEFORE Christmas right now and I am sitting in an airport waiting for my delayed flight and I thought” “what the heck, I will work on some future blog posts!”

If you’ve been following my blog you know I’ve been obsessed in the past with making project/drawstring bags (pattern by Sotak Handmade). Well I thought it would fun to make the small sized bags as gift bags for my family for Christmas.

I made a bag for each person based on their interests and what fabric I had on hand.

For example my brother and his family love the Marvel Avengers movies. They’ve seen all of them (they go as a family) and several of them have also read the comics. Surprisingly I had a little collection of Marvel Avengers fabric in my stash (not sure why but it was there) and here are the gift bags I made my brother, his wife and their son:

The lining of each bag is a different Marvel Avengers fabric.

Then for my sister’s family I made them gift bags based on their interests:

Here are all the gift bags together:

I just love these bags and I still have a whole box of project bags in various stages of assembly for when I am ready to return to making them to possible sell of my Etsy shop someday…

  2. Hi Tierney, First, I’m new to your blog and am really interested in your sewing and your creativity! Thanks for sharing! Second, your quilts are amazing and I wonder how you budget your time to make them and do regular stuff, you know, sleep, eat, dust, pay bills, chat with neighbors. Time management is a skill I’m still hoping to master. Third, which relates to second, your bags seem a sensible way to ensure that everyone in my large family gets a Christmas present on Christmas. This year I have half a dozen quilts in various stages for my son and nieces (still hoping for nephews , too, one day) and it was embarrassing to give WIPs and promise completion dates. My one concern with bags is that I tend to load them with books so inevitably the handles break or tear. How do you balance the strength of the handle with the beauty of the bag? Thanks from a fan!

  3. How do you say A-DOR-A-BLE!!!I cannot imagine a better heart-felt gift to receive as a gift. The older I get the more I appreciate a gift that someone took their precious time to make for me. We all know where your heart is ❤️

  4. I hope you had a nice holiday and didn’t suffer any travel delays during your trip. Those drawstring gift bags are awesome, I must put them on my November calendar to make for next year!! I don’t want to make them too early cuz then I’ll forget about them!! LOL
