Quilt in Progress

No To Last Minute Binding

I was tempted though…

A quick follow up to the post T-Shirt Quilt Assembled – today, two days before Christmas, I received in the mail John’s T-shirt quilt from the longarm quilter (who had longarm machine quilted an all over pattern).

Fresh out of the box…

I was tempted for a moment to get it trimmed (remove overhanging extra binding and backing), assemble the binding, attach the binding and then attempt to sew down the binding/complete binding the quilt 2 days before the holiday so I could give it to John on Christmas.

Nope. I went ahead and showed John the quilted quilt and put it away to deal with until after the holiday! He knows it is eventually coming into his life to snuggle under…

I also had a couple of last minute gifts I was going to make and then decided this year no last minute crafting. (The intended gift recipients won’t know what they did not receive!)

Perhaps I will be better prepared next year – ha!

  1. Hi Tierney, hope you could enjoy the christmas days. Wish you a healthy 2026!!
it is strange for me to understand to move from such a pretty great room to a small one… but ok, if you are there more like in a nutshell and your creativity can grow it is great!! love to be back on your blog!!
the information mails do not come in – from no blogger – so I had to set up links to each page and check frequently to see if something new is going on.
    Love your work!!!

  2. My husband loves to get funny T-shirts like those from thrift stores — I never thought of turning them into a quilt he would really love! That is a great idea and I wish I had heard of it before letting his T-shirts get way too worn out to use. I will start sneaking some of his current ones away to be quilted later. 🙂

    1. Oh that would be a fun quilt with his funny T-shirts! I always crack up at John’s “feed me tacos and tell me I’m pretty” T-shirt.
You can use semi worn out T-shirts as you secure them with Pellon SF 101 or other iron on interfacing (and I use a pressing cloth over the T-shirt as not to melt any graphics) and that gives them body and structure.
