This is a follow up to the posts Project Linus Mini Quilt Retreat, Part I and Project Linus Mini Retreat, Part II.
Last Wednesday the new community based quilt group I joined met to finish up the Project Linus quilts they started in April. Several members with longarm quilting machines completed the quilting on the quilts and put on the binding. Now it was time to sew down the binding so the 5 quilts could get donated.
Instead of hand stitching down the binding, the team decided to just “stitch in the ditch” the binding to finish the quilts.
I got the binding on three quilts sewn down, while others worked on adding the binding to those not finished. Here are some photos from the morning:

Pretty quilts! And machine-stitched binding makes much more sense on kids’ quilts. And how nice that you’ve joined a quilt donation group!

Thank you and I think it is only once or twice a year we are making a pile of quilts for Project Linus, the rest of the year we will work on our own projects when we meet once a month 🙂

Wow. Sewing down the binding is my worst part of making a quilt. And you did three in a morning!

Oops I thought at first said we did it at 3 (am) in the morning, ha! You said 3 in a morning – my brain must be foggy. Yes binding is not my favorite thing to do but I was able to cheat and not hand sew it down – machine stitching was much quicker 🙂

What lovely quilts and such neat machine binding, I struggle to stay in the ditch 🙂

Thank you and it can be challenging. There is allegedly a special foot for Bernina one could buy for stitch in the ditch. but I am not that motivated for perfection, ha!
