I will return to blogging soon, I’ve been struggling with all that is (continually) going on in the world.
For now here is a photo of Mike the Miniature Schnauzer “pillow nap stacking” (a term we developed, patent pending, ha!) with my partner John on top of a granny square blanket while John is nestled under a quilt.

Some days you just need a break from the news and a nap is a good strategy to refresh (at least John and Mike think so)!
I, too, have been struggling with the onslaught of non-stop violence, hurts, agregious conflicting viewpoints that are self-serving those in power to the detriment of ‘we the people’ etc that affect all of us in some way or another. Part of the struggle includes a sort of paralysis of ‘doing’ and/or subtle guilt felt whenever my own life feels like it’s normalizing (knowing that for so many others, it’s far from any type of delicate balance).
I’m with ya, Tierney. Take a nap, chill out (the odd combo of snuggling under a quilt on the couch in the middle of 90+ degree weather is fully understood here, too)!
Refill, recharge and then go back and face the day…knowing our little bit does make a difference.
Take care.

Appreciate your thoughtful comments Laura, and we’ve had some 40 – 50 degree days in the middle of our 70 to 80 degree days so nap stacking worked for those days!

I feel guilty about how numb I feel about everything and about avoiding the news and the news commentary.

I do too, I appreciate your comments.

We all need to find center and focus. Then we can find solutions. They will not come fast or easy, but they will also not come until we can focus. Here’s to nap stacking as a tool!

My sewing room is my escape from this madness. Emailing our governor yields no results. Belonging to action groups only provides an opportunity to meet with sane people, and does not get the attention of the insane people in charge. I am at a loss as to what to do.

Thank goodness for the sewing room! I am at a loss too.

Sending a hug from the Uk. You feel this way because you care so don’t change. It’s important to recognise your feelings and do what you need to do to. Come back soon feeling refreshed and positive .

Stay away from the news. Skim if you must, but leave it alone. Since giving up the news over a year ago, my stress levels have dipped considerably.

That is definitely a good idea. You were smart to give up the news!

It has worked wonders and I really don’t miss it that much. I try to stay focused on the things that make me happy. The important things you’ll find out anyway. Ukraine, COVID, school shootings, and all the rest will get to you if you are on the web. I just choose to avoid delving in deeper like I used to. I have more important things to do, like find funny videos on Friday. HA!!!

I’m in a similar spot… I’ve had to stop watching the news and limit my social media exposure 😟

A quilt, a granny square afghan, a Schnauzer and a nap seem like the best antidotes to the news. Each of them have a way of brightening a day on their own but put them together and you get a real pick me up.

Take heart, dear Tierney.
Your post made me think of William Wordsworth’s sonnet, written about 220 years ago. Here are the first two lines:
The world is too much with us; late and soon,
Getting and spending, we lay waste our powers;—

Thanks so much for sharing those lines! I am going to remember this poet’s words!

I was browsing a book about “doing nothing” – something that those in the Netherlands have adapted as a way to “just be” with no thoughts of doing “anything” but rather doing “nothing” – which is what John and for that matter, you Tierney are doing “nothing” – I often do nothing as well, especially when “paint is drying” or if I’m out of the house, and I feel like just sitting and looking at “nothing” – I did that yesterday, instead of busing on many buses – I took the local bus to the hub and sat on the train for 40minutes to Newmarket…I did absolutely nothing. And then returned within that same arena.

That sounds pretty wonderful – to just sit on a train for a bit and just be!
