A little follow up from yesterday’s post, The Library Stack and Hygge, on the Nordic concept of hygge (pronounced ‘hoo-ga’).
While continuing to read How to Hygge: The Nordic Secrets to a Happy Life by Signe Johansen, I came across this quote this morning that made me smile:
But just to keep alive is not enough. To live you must have sunshine and freedom, and a little flower to love.
– Hans Christian Andersen
The tulips are popping up in my garden and I thought I was share a “little flower” with you I have “to love”.
Wishing you a glorious day of sunshine, freedom and flowers.
Wonderful. Likewise – wishing you a beautiful day. ❤

Hoo-ga? Hoo-ga?!? Okay Danish is hard but let me try to give you a more accurate help: “hew-ga”
But “hew” is short, shorter than the English “to hew”, and the vowels in “ga” sounds like the one in “the”. But hygge is definitely a nice thing, I would compare it to coziness. Incidentally, I’m doing just that right now 🙂

Ah I was waiting for some Dane to weigh in! You know I like to slaughter the sound of your mother tongue, don’t get me started – ha! Glad you are hew-ga-ing 🙂

Haha! Well if you ever manage to get hygge right then I have a couple of other choice words for you! Remember in Nyhavn where I was trying to teach you to say “beer”? Øl! See, it’s easy! Now try” smoked trout: røget ørred. Easy peasy.
