A Crafter's Life

Why Worry Now

I was thinking about a different post to write this post on my morning walk with Mike the Miniature Schnauzer.

The trees have turned and the weather has cooled down and there was a delicious Autumn cool quiet to my walk this morning.

I enjoy listening to either podcasts, audiobooks or music while I walk Mike. This morning I was listening to music and one of my all time favorite songs queued up on my playlist – Why Worry by Dire Straits from of one of my favorite albums of all time – Brothers in Arms.

In the back of mind lately, always swirling around, are thoughts of the craziness going on in the world. Listening to this song gave me pause.

So I decided to save the post I was going to write today for tomorrow and instead share this song with you and maybe it can give you a little pause too if you have a lot of “thought swirling” going on in your head…

Baby, I see this world has made you sad
Some people can be bad
The things they do, the things they say

But baby, I’ll wipe away those bitter tears
I’ll chase away those restless fears
And turn your blue skies into gray

Why worry

There should be laughter after pain
There should be sunshine after rain
These things have always been the same
So why worry now
Why worry now

And if you’d like to see a lovely live version of the song in a Mark Knopfler duet with the exquisite Emmylou Harris, here you go…

I thought my soul would float away from peacefulness listening to this…

By the way if you enjoyed this duet they have a brilliant album together that I highly recommend (it’s in my music collection) – All the Road Running.

  1. Nice song – hadn’t heard it before. It does slow things down. I’ve certainly been relying on my ‘old faithful’ tracks over the last few months. Thank goodness for music 🙂

  2. I worry about everyone who are not here in New Zealand, where we have managed yet again to eliminate c/19 … yes I’m lucky living in this part of the world, a small group of islands that if they were squished up would fit into the state of Colorado but with a whole less people…but I worry … please keep safe and well.

    1. We do have cases but these are imported, and in managed gov’t quarantine – mainly from citizens and residents returning from places far and wide…strict protocols are in place

    2. As you should – the US is a hot bed of “cooties” – people not even wearing masks and not following the social distancing guidelines. Do not let any US people into NZ until we get our act together 🙂

      1. Most of our returnees are from the other side of the globe – but I do know some NZers who came home, from the USA…0-4 daily cases caught with the testing out of something like 60,000 who have returned , since March – so the odds are reasonably okay…

But I am mindful and I’ve not altered much of how I chose to live during the L/4 restrictions – other than I have more choices. I’m relatively happy with my “lot”… the furthest I have gone in my region was the trip to visit with a family member in Devonport a couple of hours away via public transport. I needed some inhouse family help.

        Sorry to ramble on…

  3. Music has an amazing capability to evoke emotions. This song, Why Worry, is also among my favorite songs, and I love the entire album! Thank you for sharing this and reminding me ❤

Along the same lines, I have set a new sound on my alarm app a short while ago: Don't Worry Be Happy. It reminds me every morning to not worry so much. Or, as you read to me in a cassette tape (remember those?) you sent me two decades ago:

Don't sweat the small stuff. And it's all small stuff.
