Follow up to the post What’s On the Design Wall: Scrappy Gold/Brown Log Cabin – Update.
Ok one more post about this quilt before it heads today to the long-arm quilter (I decided to “quilt by check” instead of do it myself!). I decided to name the free-form scrappy log cabin quilt I started during the Scrap Happy Retreat I had in June – “Scrappy Autumnal Splendor” as it reeks of Autumn in it’s color palette!
Here is what it looks like all pieced together:

The border (and lattice) is taupe Peppered Cotton which is a version of a “shot cotton” and there was potential for fraying so I stitched around the entire quilt top 1/8th inch.

After finishing the quilt top it was time to head to my yardage stash and see what kind of backing I could piece together (I was tempted to buy yardage of a single fabric for the back but darn it I am going to use up my stash, ha!):

And here are a couple of the fabrics I found:
Here’s a little peek of the crazy pieced backing I made with bold Autumnal colored fabrics with metallic highlights!

You’ll have to wait until I get it back from the long-arm quilter to see how the back came out (anticipation…smile).

that turned out very cool!

Breathtaking! The taupe really is/was the best for your sashing/borders. BTW: I love the millefiori-looking backing fabric piece!

Thanks so much and the back will be very “busy” but I wanted it to contrast with the quieter front 🙂

This are MY COLORS. Nothing beats the autumnal feel. Is there a name for that type of Eastern/Oriental print? It’s gorgeous! Wow you have a lovely fabric library!! 😍

Thanks so much and glad you like them!
I only know it as Asian Fabrics if you are talking about some of the fabrics I used for my backing. I’ve been collecting fabrics for years 🙂

That’s some stash you have there. Good for you on ‘going shopping’ in your cupboard. The backing fabrics you have chosen are luscious.

Thanks so much and I try to keep my stash under control and well wrangled – ha! I’ve also been trying to cull/purge it regularly as needed – especially if I bring in some new fabric!

Oh Tierney! These blocks are so cool…they look like framed pictures that you can’t really make out from a distance ❤ The mix of fabrics you chose for the back will be perfect for snuggling under in the fall 😊
