Quilters’ Playdate: It’s All About Me!

Continuing my series of posts about regular get togethers with neighborhood quilters J and D. The other posts about our get togethers can be found in my new blog Category “Quilters’ Playdate“. This post is also a follow to my post Quilt Top Finished .

We met last Friday and this time it was All About Me! Okay, it was about my quilt and getting it quilted.

On the way over my neighbor’s house I got my (finally) completed quilt top and backing ready for the long journey of a couple street blocks down the road (ha!):

I got to help J load it on her longarm quilting machine (though she is doing most the work in this photo below…):

It was so exciting to be involved with all the steps on getting my quilt loaded and watching J set up the preprogrammed quilting pattern we had selected together:

Because the quilt top was denim with applique on top of it (making it rather thick), we had to monitor the progression of the longarm machine quilting so the industrial needle did not get stuck on any edge or accidentally lift/rip and edge. J set me to work monitoring the quilting while she worked on other projects with D:

It was scary and exciting at the same time. I had to be careful not to let the industrial needle quilt through my hand (that would be a serious “ouch” and J reported to us she’d had that happen in the past).

While I was there a couple hours, the longarm machine made great progress (and J had to keep adjusting the roller to move the quilt down sections):

Next post I will share the quilted quilt!

I appreciate your thoughts!
