I Just Had to Fix It

This is a follow up to my previous post Progress on Cinnamon Stars.

At the end of that post I mentioned I discovered that the little quilt I pieced so far, did not match the image on the kit’s tin holder:

My pieced quilt in progress on 11/04/26:

The image on the front cover of the tin the kit came in and the instruction booklet:

I thought I could live with it but it was irritating me, so I pulled out the seam ripper and took apart a lot of the pieced quilt. The image below is the evolution of taking apart one section at a time, fixing it and then putting it back together.

And I fixed it to look much closer to the sample quilt photo.

Here is the section that I fixed – I replaced the cream triangles border the center 9-patch square with teal and gold gingham triangles. I also stitched on the first border and cornerstones.

I also prepared the second (and final) border and cornerstones, which is all I have left to sew on in order to complete the quilt top.

After 15+ years of looking at this tin (which I was using as part of my studio decor), I want to finish product to closely resemble it – ha!

  1. It definitely looks better. The contrast is much better and looks more balanced having those big floral outer squares diagonally opposite each other rather than on the same side of the quilt..
