Update on my latest granny square crochet blanket project, this time with Lion Brand Re-Spun recycled polyester yarn.
In the post What’s On The Design Carpet: First 20 Squares I shared I made the first 20 granny square blocks using three (3) different yarns in six different combinations:

I lamented that I likely did not have enough yarn, using the three skeins, to complete a blanket with 100+ granny square blocks (which is needed if I want it to be a lap blanket and not a shawl!). So I decided to bring in three more skeins that I had in my stash and create some sample blocks using these yarns:

So with all that background to bring you up to date, now I can show you the “New Kids on the Block” – the three sets of sample blocks I made with three different combinations:
- Using only the three new yarns
- Old yarn in the first two rounds and new yarn in the 3rd and 4th row
- New yarn in the first two rounds and old yarn in the 3rd and 4th row

I made a total of 18 new blocks.
Here are those 18 new blocks (3 different sets of 6 different yarn combinations) combined with the original yarn 6 different yarn combinations:

So combining the original 20 blocks I completed, I have 38 blocks made so far (14 are missing from the image below as they are just additional of the original 6 combinations).
Here are all 38 blocks stacked on the granny square block holder John made me a couple years ago:

Yes this is more than you want to know but I figured I can use this post as a reference if I start to get confused on what I have as my combinations so far!
So currently my plan is to make 5 each of the 24 different yarn combinations I’ve made so far, for a total of 120 blocks. I will lay them out and decide if I need more and go from there 🙂
Oh and just in case you didn’t catch the reference to the late 1980s/early 1990s boy band, The New Kids on the Block, here’s something to either remind you of or introduce you to them:
