What is an “Agriculture Report”? Well I was inspired by @quiteayarnblog‘s ongoing series of posts titled “Agriculture Report” (and this title always cracks me up) that are actually updates of what is going on in her garden. I just had to adopt this same title for updates on what is going on in my garden/my “garden report”
Well the growing season in my new “garden” is at its end and it was time to harvest my basil and my mint (I haven’t decided what I want to do with my rosemary, thyme and oregano yet…).
We don’t have a formal garden in our new house yet. What we did for our first summer growing season at our new house was to set up herbs to grow in the pots we planted roses, examples below:
THE BASIL HARVEST
Here’s the pot which had the basil (it has been all harvested as of this post so I am using a photo from July):
I used lots of the basil during the summer for various dishes. I decided to turn the rest of the basil into Pesto.
John came up with the idea (that he saw on a YouTube video or Instagram post) to freeze the Pesto in a block and while semi frozen partition into blocks to easily pull apart for use – and it worked!
THE MINT HARVEST
In addition to growing a lot of basil (which appeared to love sharing a pot with a rose), I grew a lot of mint.
John and I decided impromptu to invite some friends over for Mojitos (made with fresh basil).
The weather has changed in the Denver Metro area and become for Autumn-like with cool evenings in the 50s F. We decided to also break on our new firepit table:
And we had a marshmallow roast/Smores making last evening!
I think that’s one of the best ways to gather around a fire – ha!
