06/17/16 – I updated my blog template to the format you see now, thanks everyone for your input!
The blog template I use is called Chalkboard and it is sort of a tribute to my family of teachers.
Beginning with my great grandfather, I come from a line of teachers. I even got my trainer certification and used to be a trainer/teach for many years in my profession.
However, recently I was reading a publication on blogging tips and it said to NEVER use white text on a dark background – this is difficult on your readers.
I would appreciate your honest feedback on my blog format and if you would prefer dark text on a white background as is standard with most blogs.
Thanks for your input and readership!
Tierney 🙂
I prefer dark type on white background but it’s only a personal preference–white on black can be read with no difficulty. It is interesting and out of the ordinary, so I admire your individuality.

Thanks Martha, I appreciate your feedback. I may change to a new template in the near future (I like change anyway!) 🙂

I find it easy to read, not harsh at all. The only thing I would say is that it doesn’t really match what you are blogging about – quilting and creating!

I prefer a white or at least a light background, aging eyes, I have to turn down the contrast if it is a black background. I also usually read your blog in my email because then it is a white background come to the blog if I want to check something out.

Thanks so much for this feedback Bev, I really appreciate it! I have enjoyed this template but I am looking at being more traditional in the future to make it easy for all eyes 🙂

My first instinct was to say ‘leave it alone’. However, the longer it takes me to compose my response, I realize that I do feel some eye strain. But I am a sucker for chalkboards! And I love your blog!

I like white words on dark background because it is different AND it does look like a chalkboard….not a whiteboard!

My age is showing: white on black is a bit harder to read, though not impossible.

Thanks and you nailed what they were saying in that blogging article I read – that some readers may be challenged with white on black/dark background!

To be frank, this is how I normally read your blog: https://i.imgur.com/QZPPPv5.jpg so white on black is fine for me. However, I don’t really think the chalkboard theme matches your blog topic, so it seems a bit off somehow – confusing. I really, really liked your first theme, with the colored ribbons. Now THAT was a theme that matched!
I also think that this current theme must have received some updates because when I first saw it, it didn’t work well on mobile at all, and honestly it’s still not very elegant on a small screen.
However, it’s tour site and I understand and respect the notion of honoring your family this way. So I’m just giving you my impression, but not suggesting to change it.

Thank you for your thoughtful feedback; and as you and other reader pointed out the theme is not really aligned with what my blog is about. I am going to look at my next blog template experiment 🙂

I think white paper is normal with black ink , however when looking at a computer screen it could be a bit much for readers with poor eye sight .
I would go with a light grey backround myself if I was to post alot .

While I will agree that the background doesn’t reflect that of the stereotypical quilting lifestyle, I don’t think you fit that mold anyway. You are an artist and I think you have the creative license to use whatever background speaks to you. Rock On!
