This is a follow up to the post Slashing the Stash with TTQH.
Terry the Quilting Husband (TTQH) is ready to make another quilt and this time he wants to make a quilt for our bed – and we have a king-size bed.
He has an ambitious plan, after raiding my stash of homespun fabrics (brushed cotton fabrics woven in a primitive home style weave, usually in plaids) for a very large quilt!
He discovered this book, Slash Your Stash Quilts, while I was thinning out my quilt booklets in November. I had this one slated for donation but he wanted to keep it and make the Twinklers pattern with homespuns in my stash (he was actually trying to slash my stash!).
We reviewed the original pattern he chose in depth which led to him changing his mind. He is going to make another pattern in the book that does not have all those “points”:
I helped him cut 225 6.5″ x 6.5″ squares and he has sorted them into 25 nine patch sets:
Here he is playing (spinning) with some designs with the pile-o-homespuns on the large design wall in the hallway:
And they now are waiting by his sewing machine for him to start sewing…
More updates as the quilt progresses…
Postscript
A quick follow up on the post Additional on “Additional Conversations” .
Originally I was going to hand quilt my large art quilt from recycled clothing, Additional Conversations:
I decided to “quilt it by check” and Guadalupe Designs long-arm quilting service, do the quilting.
Here is the quilt laid out on the bed as I try to make sure I made the quilt back wide enough (using tan colored Peppered Cotton).
This is going to be a beautiful quilt!

I know! Truthfully I was rather skeptical when he changed patterns. I was even resistant to having him cut up my beloved homespuns (so beloved they sat in a drawer for 15 years – ha!) into just squares in what I initially thought was a boring pattern. But the colors in this one are going to make it awesome!

The simplest of patterns come to life with the choice of fabric. He has an artistic eye for design and color. You were saving these beloved fabrics just for him!

Homey homespuns to make your King sized bed quilt more homey! I’ll bet it will feel good to the touch, too.

I’m very excited to see that TTQH is starting another quilt. I’m looking forward to seeing his updates. LOL! I love your terminology….quilting by check! I think that is a great idea. Can’t wait to see the quilting! 🙂

I stole that from another quilter – I thought “quilting by check” was an adorable way to say you send your quilts out to professionals (like yourself!). See the comment I wrote about under Chela’s comment, I was resistant at first to give up my homespuns! 🙂

Well the comment sounded perfect. I just have to remember that one! 😊 LOL! I am very guilty of hoarding my pretty ones! I’m not sure which lifetime I think I’m going to use them in. 🤣 His neatly stacked squares look nice.

Wow, that sounds like a lot of fun, playing with the fabric squares on the big planning board. I love the idea of composing something “bigger” than me! Is TTQH doing all the design, or are you co-designing it? You have the perfect stash for the project, as well (I want shirts in all of those lovely and comforting homespun plaids!). And looking forward to seeing the recycled quilt when it comes back! 😀

He is doing all the design and I am doing the coaching and any additional support (like I helped him cut all the fabric). I know those plaids would make lovely warm cozy shirts!
Thanks I cannot wait either to see how the recycled fabric quilt looks when quilted 🙂

This looks like a great project for him, and another example of a very simple design made terrific in the choice of fabrics. I also really like the design on the cover of your booklet. 🙂
